Transforming Viv & Suki’s kitchen in Rawdon
Rawdon, Leeds
It’s our pleasure to introduce one of our most imposing kitchen installations from 2023.
Viv and Suki’s stunning Victorian property in Rawdon, Leeds, deserved a truly bespoke kitchen design that oozed sophistication and boasted unique functionality.
The primary aesthetic of the space is that it is dramatic, yet warm, homely and inviting. This is accomplished by the ‘Barlow Ash’ bevelled shaker timber doors and panels painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Railings’—proving yet again how popular this combination of style and colour has become to more and more of our discerning customers.
The Shaws Double 800 ceramic farmhouse sink paired with the Qettle Signature Modern 4-in-1 boiling water tap in copper is part of this kitchen’s eclectic charm, fusing traditional with modern, and was what this couple was keen to achieve as a statement piece in their new kitchen. The space is completed with solid oak floating shelves above the Belfast sink, which complements it and reinforces an element of tradition in-keeping with this period property. The copper theme is continued through into the 12mm diameter bar handles and the pendant light shades above the central island, adding depth and warmth with a modern twist to the overall space.
This kitchen was a labour of love for our experienced kitchen designers and fitters—as exemplified when creating the bespoke Butler’s Pantry, which was recessed into two former window reveals and boxed in the same material as the kitchen’s cabinets, to enable a consistent appearance and allow the design to follow through faithfully.
To successfully include the pantry in the kitchen’s design, we had to lean heavily on the skill of our lead fitter, Richard. The craftsmanship involved at this level of bespoke kitchen manufacturing and installation should not be taken for granted and was necessary to achieve the desired design requested by the customer.
Another notable element of this kitchen is the Elica Nikolatesla Flame self-aspirating gas hob which was designed and installed to be vented outside through ducting underneath the floor, therefore avoiding the need for a chimney hood above the island which could restrict one’s headroom or obstruct one’s peripheral view of the rest of the kitchen.
