Creating a Stylish and Functional Kitchen

Style Guide by Mother Hubbards, Leeds

Weir, Spennithorne Ave Edit 30

Designing a kitchen that is both beautiful and functional can be a daunting task. With so many options available, it can be difficult to know where to start. In Mike and Angela’s kitchen style guide, we will explore the key elements of a well-designed kitchen.

Choosing the Right Style

The first step in designing your kitchen is to choose a style that reflects your personal taste and the overall aesthetic of your home. This most recent project featured a classic style with a modern twist. The Barlow Ash door style, combined with the Farrow & Ball “All White” on the walls & Farrow & Ball “Hague Blue” on the island, creating a timeless and elegant look.

Color Palette and Materials

Colour plays a significant role in setting the mood of your kitchen. The neutral colour palette of All White and Hague Blue, create a calming and inviting atmosphere. The use of high-quality materials, such as Fugen Avalanche composite quartz worktops, add a touch of luxury and durability. The cabinet doors beneath the bar overhang on the island are designed to be 25mm shorter, creating a 25mm gap at the top. This gap allows users to easily grip and open the doors without the need for handles, which helps prevent potential knee injuries for those seated at the bar.

Layout and Functionality

A well-designed kitchen should be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The layout of our project was designed to maximise space and efficiency. The island, with its waterfall edge and ample work space, was a focal point of the kitchen. The Blanco Andano undermount sink and Max II tap provided a practical and stylish solution for cleaning and preparing food.

Appliances and Accessories

The appliances and accessories you choose can significantly impact the overall look and functionality of your kitchen. This project featured high-quality appliances from brands such as Rangemaster, Neff, and Elica. The integrated microwave, chimney hood, and dishwasher adds convenience and a streamlined appearance.

Unique Features

One of the standout features of this project is the butler’s pantry. This hidden gem provides additional storage and work space, while also adding a touch of character to the kitchen. The scooped drawer fronts are a unique and functional design element.

Creating a space that is both beautiful and functional comes natural to us. Paying close attention to small details that make a big difference, such as door handles and lighting, to complete the overall look. For this project, we chose Monmouth 38mm diameter knobs for the doors and complemented them with Monmouth cup handles for the drawers.
